I’ll be honest. I really struggled with whether or not I should don this makeup. I’ve always admired drag queens for their courage, humor, and humility. He had such a giving spirit. I really wasn’t sure if it would be okay to step into that character.
And I didn’t know if this would be insulting to anyone, since I am not male and I’m definitely not Glenn Milstead. I could never fill his shoes, but I’ve always looked up to him. Then a friend of mine said, “Divine is a state of mind.” And she’s right. What I admired most about Glenn was that when he was Divine he was kitschy and crass and very “fuck you if you don’t like me.”
Besides, I was a witch yesterday and I didn’t have any Wiccans up my ass about it.
